Is One Part Of Your Home Too Warm? Is Another Part Too Cool? A Zoning System Makes Your Whole Home Just Right

If you can feel the difference in temperature when you walk from one room to another or from one floor to another, your home might benefit from a zoned heating and cooling system. This will even out the temperature in your home. At the same time, it will give you precise control of every part of your home.

Although a single thermostat can do a fine job of controlling the temperature of the room it’s in, it has a hard time controlling the temperature throughout a whole house. Warm air rises to the second floor of a home, and cool air descends to a basement. Other features that may affect the temperature in various parts of your home include:

  • Large glass windows.
  • Large open areas.
  • Attic space.
  • Additions to your home.

With a zoning system, you get two or more thermostats that control specific areas of your home. Most frequently, one thermostat is on the first floor, and another is one the second floor. You can set the thermostats so that they keep the temperature even throughout your home, or you can make some areas cooler and others warmer, depending on the preferences of your family. You can even set the thermostat to raise and lower the temperature at set times during the day or night.

A control panel, thermostats, dampers and ductwork are all that you need for a zoning system. Your HVAC contractor can take care of these details. The contractor will also determine the zoning strategy that works best for your home.
