Maintaining Your HVAC System: Simple Things You Can Do To Boost Efficiency And Prevent Problems

Maintaining Your HVAC System: Simple Things You Can Do To Boost Efficiency And Prevent ProblemsIf you want your HVAC systems to run smoothly for as long as possible, then you will need to put in a little bit of effort. None of the things you need to do are overly challenging or complicated, and they all bring with them great benefits for the well-being of your household. To make things easier, here is a list of a few selected things you can do to boost the efficiency, and reliability of any heating and cooling appliances in your home:

  • Regularly switch your air filter. This step is especially crucial during the parts of the year with extreme weather – namely summer and winter. On average, though, you should be checking your air filter for cleanliness once a month. Change it whenever it’s dirty and at the very least every three months. This will prevent too much dust from building up in the system.
  • Bring in a professional for occasional tune-ups. All types of HVAC appliances function more smoothly when provided with regular maintenance and check ups. Getting your appliances tuned up will cost you a little bit of money, but will boost energy efficiency and lower the risk of breakdowns, thus potentially saving you big money in the long run.
  • Consider a programmable thermostat. Using a thermostat on which you can manually control the temperature can potentially save you a lot of money on energy bills. These thermostats allow you to adjust the temperature of your home according to the weather and your needs, so you can prevent heat from being wasted when you don’t need it.
  • Seal your ducts. Duct systems can waste as much energy as just about any HVAC appliance if not sealed properly, which is why you should thoroughly inspect your ducts for any present cracks. You can use mastic duct sealant or foil tape to seal any that you find.

If you put in the time and effort to take these precautions with your HVAC systems, then you shouldn’t be seeing any breakdowns in the near future. For household needs in the Peachtree City area, contact us at Powers Heating & Air.
