Beautiful Houseplants Can Also Refresh the Air in Your Home

Beautiful Houseplants Can Also Refresh the Air in Your HomeThe quality of the air inside your home does need a bit of help every once in a while. Inside air is can be more polluted than the air on the outside. Dust mites, pollen, mold, carbon monoxide and vapors from the chemicals that we use are just some of the pollutants that can pollute the air inside your home.

An environmentally friendly way to improve the quality of air inside your home is through the use of houseplants. There are many types of plants that are suitable for indoor use and you can choose houseplants based on your specific needs.

Five of the best air-filtering houseplants are:

  1. The red edged dracaena – this shrub can grow very big and the red tinted edges on the leaves provide extra color to your home. They are good at removing xylene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde that are introduced to the inside air through varnishes and gasoline.
  2. The weeping fig – pollutants introduced to the inside air through your furniture and carpeting are filtered from the air by a weeping fig. This plant is ideal for a living room and it removes formaldehyde, trichloroethylene and benzene.
  3. The English ivy – airborne fecal-matter particles and formaldehyde are filtered from the air by this type of plant.
  4. The Chinese evergreen – this plant can remove a variety of pollutants from the air and remove increased amounts of toxins with time. It produces red berries and is very easy to care for.
  5. The peace lily – this plant is one of the best houseplants for filtering pollutants from the air. It is great for removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, toluene and xylene from the air.

Houseplants not only remove pollutants from the air, making it safer to breath, they also create attractive living spaces.
