Good airflow is an essential component of every HVAC unit. After all, your system can only heat or cool air that flows freely into it. Ideally, there should be a vent in every room of your home. In addition, your home probably has at least one air return that’s usually, but not always, located inside. You should check all of these areas for dust and debris, vacuuming over and around vents and changing any dirty filters. Make sure no vents are blocked by furniture, especially the main air return. Ensure Outdoor Elements are Clean and Clear

Check all outdoor air supply vents for obstructions. If you have an outdoor condenser unit, go through this basic checklist at least twice a year:

• Shut the thermostat off, so the unit won’t turn on
• Clear away all debris located within 2 feet around the condenser
• Remove the protective screen around the condenser and vacuum the dust and dirt with a wet/dry canister vacuum
• Clean the fins with a spray cleaner specifically intended for HVAC cleaning
• Rinse the fins with a garden hose
• Finally, replace the screen and turn the thermostat back on
