High Humidity

• Look for condensation on walls, windows and other cool surfaces.
• Look for wet stains on ceilings and walls.
• Be aware of mildew smells, especially in areas such as your kitchen and bathroom.
• If you or members of your household have allergies, keep track of whether or not they become more severe.

Low Humidity

In contrast, low humidity can contribute to the transmission of viruses like the flu. Low humidity also makes it more difficult for your home to hang onto heat during the winter, which can irritate your throat and lungs. It can also contribute to dusty and cracked wooden fixtures. Here are some ways to detect low humidity:

• Notice if your lips and skin become chapped, or if your overall level of thirst increases.
• Be aware of more static electricity.
• Pay attention to the amount of dust buildup in your home, and whether dust hangs in the air.
