Give These New Year’s Resolutions for Your HVAC System a Try

Give These New Year’s Resolutions for Your HVAC System a TryTo stand up to Peachtree City’s rainy winters and hot summers, your heating and cooling system needs consistent care. As the new year kicks off, setting a few HVAC resolutions will help you keep up with that care.

Plan Ahead for Routine Maintenance

Replacing your air filter every month is one of the most important things you can do to keep your system efficient and lengthen the components’ life spans. Check the filter monthly and replace it if it’s covered in dust. Activate your thermostat’s filter reminder or find another way to remember your monthly filter check.

This year, remember to keep your A/C’s outdoor condenser until clean. Regularly remove debris such as grass clippings from the exterior fins with a stiff brush. Wash the unit at least once a year.

Your furnace and A/C both need an annual professional inspection and cleaning to remain at top efficiency. To make taking care of this easier and enjoy price discounts, consider signing up for a maintenance agreement.

Consider a Few Upgrades

If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, resolve to invest in one this year. Setting your furnace’s thermostat 10 to 15 degrees lower for eight hours a day helps cut your heating bills. You can lower your cooling bills in a similar way. A programmable thermostat allows you to set energy-saving temperatures ahead of time so you won’t forget and waste money by heating or cooling unnecessarily.

Sealing air leaks and improving your insulation lightens the load on your furnace and A/C, lowering your bills and extending the life of your system. Contact a heating and cooling technician to perform a home energy audit to help you find areas that require sealing or additional insulation.

If your furnace or A/C is more than 10 years old, start looking into a replacement. Systems this age are nearing the end of their lifespan and are more likely to break down. What’s more, upgrading to a more efficient model will lower your monthly bills.
