Zoning Systems — For Custom Cooling Wherever You Are

Zoning Systems — For Custom Cooling Wherever You Are

As summer approaches, many homeowners face the problem of trying to find a way to keep the various parts of their home equally cool. While air return ducts can help with this to an extent, in the hot Georgia summers this is not always enough. One way to address this problem is to use zoning systems, which allow the homeowner to provide the right amount of conditioned air to each part of the home as it’s needed. The system also has the side benefit of permitting the people in each zone to choose the temperature they want without affecting any of the other zones.

Why zoning systems?

It’s a fact of physics that warm air rises and cool air falls. In a multi-story home, the cool air you pump upstairs will immediately seek to the path of least resistance to get back to the ground floor, while warm air will take its place. This is one of the reasons you might need zoning. If an area of your home has large windows or if you’ve added an extra room or converted a basement or attic into living space, you might also benefit from zoning systems, which will allow you to better control the comfort of these areas.

How it works

Zoning systems work by using separate thermostats for different parts of the home. The temperatures for these zones are set at each thermostat. When a zone (or more than one zone) sends a signal to the control panel near the air handler, the system closes dampers to the other zones and releases conditioned air. The air throughout the home can be maintained at a more constant temperature or adjusted to suit personal preferences.

Zoning systems are one of the most effective ways to control the temperature in your home and can also save you a lot of money on your energy bills each summer. If you want to know more, please contact Powers Heating & Air. Our professionals will be happy to help you.
