With Ceiling Fans, Controlling Your Summertime Energy Costs Is a Breeze

With Ceiling Fans, Controlling Your Summertime Energy Costs Is a BreezeCeiling fans may be the easiest and most cost-effective cooling system you can have in your home. In rooms where they’re operating, they allow you to set your thermostat 3 or 4 degrees higher than you normally would and still feel comfortable. During milder days and nights, you might be able to get away with turning off your A/C entirely when your fans are operating.

Ceiling fans provide a cooling effect for individuals underneath them, similar to the way a strong breeze makes winter air feel much colder. With a fan blowing, the cooling effect is caused by the movement of the warm air surrounding your skin away from your skin. Once the warm air next to your skin has moved or been blown away, it is replaced by cooler air, making you feel cooler. Ceiling fans move warm air away from your skin faster, making you feel cooler.

It’s best to choose the largest ceiling fans possible for your room size because large fans create the same amount of cooling as small fans when set at a lower velocity. This is important if you don’t want too much draft disturbing papers and objects. Also, higher-quality fans are usually quieter than less expensive ones. This should be a consideration especially when installing fans in bedrooms. Check noise ratings on fans and, if possible, listen to them operating before purchasing.
