Duct Cleaning

It can be hard to see the importance of cleaning your duct work if you don’t understand what duct cleaning is all about. We at Powers are happy to help educate you in all areas of your air conditioning and heating system. To help breakdown the barrier between the mechanical minded customer and the non-mechanical mined customer we have some general explanations provided below.

What makes up an air conditioning and heating system or HVAC system?
  1. Equipment -- Most people understand there is a big box outside (Condenser) and a box inside (Air Handler, Furnace and/or Coil) or in some cases one big box outside (Package unit)
  2. Indoor Air Quality -- better known as filters, humidifiers or dehumidifiers
  3. Ductwork and Registers
What is ductwork?

Ductwork is network of hollow material that allows air to flow from the indoor equipment to each room or designated area. Ductwork can be installed using many different materials the most common are hard metal pipe or square boxes and flexible tubing. Most ductwork should be insulated and sealed.

Why is it important?

Ductwork is a very important part of your HVAC System. Without it you don’t get the air flow into the areas where they are needed or wanted.

Why is it important to clean the ductwork?

Finally, the reason you visited this page! Duct Cleaning is important because over time your ductwork is collecting particles of everything that have entered or exited your home. That means that particles are building up in your ductwork. This can cause problems over time for your equipment, your heath and wallet.

What kind of problems do dirty ducts cause?
  1. Poor indoor air quality.
    1. Imagine you are breathing into a bag, you are just recycling the air you exhaled a moment before. Each time you breath into the bag the quality of the air decreases.
    2. The same concept applies to your ductwork. Over time you are breathing in air through the same ductwork image how that looks after 5 or 10 years. The ductwork that may have been installed in your home before you home had walls or filters.

It is easy to see when your registers are dirty and need a wipe down. And your HVAC system will not continue to cool or heat properly if something happens to the equipment or the filter is not changed regularly. The silent and often overlooked part of your HVAC system is your ductwork.
