Optimize Furnace Efficiency with a Simple Filter Change

Optimize Furnace Efficiency with a Simple Filter Change

Optimize Furnace Efficiency with a Simple Filter Change In order to keep dirt, mold spores and other particles in your air from getting into your heating system and causing damage, you’ll have to install an effective furnace filter. Regularly replacing your furnace filter is the easiest way to maximize furnace efficiency, while also improving the quality of your indoor air. In order to optimize furnace efficiency and get the most benefit from your furnace filter, you’ll have to:

Change it Regularly

As your filter traps more dirt, it can become clogged, restricting airflow. This restricted airflow forces your furnace to work harder to circulate air in your home. More work equals more energy consumption, which will likely show up on your utility bill.

Choose the Right Filter

There are various options available when it comes to choosing furnace filters. The most basic type is made of fiberglass contained in a cardboard frame. This model can remove larger particles, like dust, dirt and pet hair, from the air. More expensive filters can further enhance your indoor air quality by removing finer particles, like pollen and bacteria.

Install it Correctly

An improperly installed furnace filter won’t do a good job of cleaning indoor air. You’ll not see any efficiency benefits either, since airflow will be restricted. For proper installation, you’ll first have to locate the old filter and remove it. Then, install the new one with the arrows pointing in the direction of the airflow or in the direction of the furnace.
