This spring HVAC checklist will help you get your A/C ready for warm weather. It’s hard to predict when you’ll want to turn on the air conditioner to combat an early heat wave. This spring HVAC checklist will help you get your A/C ready for warm weather. Getting it ready for the long cooling season ahead will cut energy costs and might prevent system problems when you most need home cooling.

  • Check the air filter and replace it if it’s dirty. Make a note to inspect the filter routinely throughout the cooling season. Nothing drives up cooling bills faster than a clogged filter. Excessive dust slows down the airflow through the air handler, which reduces the amount of air blowing through the ductwork. As a consequence, the A/C has to run longer to cool your home, driving up energy costs.
  • Inspect the drain pan located at the base of the air handler. Wipe away the dirt with a soft cloth. If you see mold, moisten the cloth with vinegar and water to clean it.
  • Look over the condition of the register grills. If they’re dusty, clean them. Make sure that they’re fully open and nothing is blocking them. If you find any that are exceptionally dust, make a note to discuss it with your HVAC contractor. You may have ductwork leaks that need repairing. Ductwork leaks waste your energy dollars and lower the indoor air quality.
  • Clean the outdoor condenser by removing any vegetation near it. You may need to hose the coils off if they’re dusty or covered with dried grass clippings.
  • Add professional HVAC maintenance to your spring HVAC checklist. There are some things that require training and specialized tools to keep your A/C or heat pump working at top efficiency. HVAC technicians will deep-clean all the components, adjust them, and check the refrigerant level. They often solve small problems during the inspection that could become major issues during the heat of the summer.

Before the long hot days of summer arrive, let this spring HVAC checklist get your cooling system in shape. For more information, contact the experts at Powers Heating & Air, providing trusted HVAC services for Peachtree City homeowners.
