UV Light Technology Enhances Indoor Air And Comfort

UV Light Technology Enhances Indoor Air And Comfort

Now, ultraviolet can be used to make your indoor air ultra-clean.

Ultraviolet (UV) light is a part of a spectrum that is invisible to the naked eye. Usually, people only notice UV light by the tanning effect it has on the fair-skinned. But UV lights can have a much different and healthier effect when added to your home’s air quality system.

Indoor air, according to the EPA, can be a bit of a health hazard, ranking as one of the five biggest environmental health risks. The reason why the simple and necessary act of breathing can cause health and comfort problems is because indoor air tends to have much higher concentrations of biological contaminants. Bacteria, viruses, mold and other microorganisms are much more likely to be found indoors than in the air outside. Such microorganisms can lead to airborne diseases, allergies and asthma attacks.

So how do UV lights help? UV lights — specifically, the very high-frequency UV rays known as germicidal lights — are deadly to tiny organisms. Such rays are almost nonexistent in sunlight, as they are absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere. But electronic UV lamps that produce the right frequency are available and can be installed inside your home’s HVAC system to kill health hazards such as mold and germs. Inside the air ducts, these already-invisible rays are contained and kept out of sight, while the HVAC system regularly circulates all the air in the house through the UV lights for cleaning.

According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control, using UV lights in conjunction with a high-quality air filter is the most effective way to rid the air of germs. It is no wonder, then, that the technology has gained widespread use in hospitals to keep diseases from spreading among patients. And now you can have the same technology working for you in your own Georgia home.
